Dopp Residential Garden
Project Description
The Dopp Residence garden is my favorite in Nashville, and also the garden I’ve worked in the longest. Starting around 2008 or 9, I took over working on the garden after Ben Oki retired from national travel. The garden was redesigned by Ann Daigh. My work is the maintenance and creation of art-formed trees and shrubs to match the modern Japanese minimalist aesthetics of the home and hardscapes. It continues to be a joy to work here on the old Niwaki as they evolve and I execute on long-term plans for the garden.
Dopp Residence - Noteworthy modern home with Japanese style modern dry landscape garden and dozens of Niwaki, known sometimes as art-formed trees and shrubs. Involved in some capacity since 2007, this is one of best Japanese modern style gardens in the region. Designed by Anne Daigh. The opportunity to revamp the garden after complete home removal led to a greater fusion between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Minimal plants with maximum effect. The late Ben Oki created and tended to the garden for many years. After new home was finished, the garden was built by Natural Creations LLC. Owen has pruned and created some new niwaki from newer material.
